How can we learn from the experiment?
- The EST will monitor energy use for two years and Octavia Housing has committed to monitoring the other two houses for two years also, to provide valuable data for comparison.
- Cost and performance comparison of all three refurbishments.
- Interview individual tenants and other stakeholders to learn from the experiences of living in the home and the project itself.

Passivhaus principles have been applied to achieve the following aims:
- produce 83% less CO2 emissions
- use 94% less energy
- save the tenant in excess of £900 a year on fuel bills
- provide a healthy and comfortable living environment; and
- cost under £60,000 more than a Decent Home refurbishment for the low energy aspects.
A dramatic difference in how energy is used in the Passivhaus is also expected, as these charts show.
